From a conversation I had yesterday:
Me: “I’m old enough to remember a time when you submitted your paper to a journal by mailing several hard copies, which the journal would then mail out to potential referees.”
Graduate student Eric Pedersen: [Looks at me like I've just grown a second head]
Ha! I remember telling someone about how amazing it was to read the library catalogue at SUNY Stony Brook from my computer in Melbourne via Telnet. The response: “That is nothing. There is this thing called the world wide web and it even has pictures…”
