More reasons (and various ways) to fund people, not projects

Writing in Nature, John Ioannidis shows that I’m not the only one who believes it’s time to rethink how most granting agencies fund science.

And if you claim that we shouldn’t even bother talking about this because too many other things depend on the current system, I can only assume that you believe any substantial reform, in any walk of life, is impossible. And that you still ride a horse because it would be impossible to replace all the infrastructure and practices that support and depend on horse riding (coaching inns, horse breeders, etc.) with infrastructure and practices that support and depend on cars.
