Andrew Gelman on beauty vs. truth in scientific theories. Very nice post. Had me thinking back to this wonderful old John Maynard Smith essay trying to identify the most beautiful scientific idea that ever turned out to be totally wrong.
From the Gelman post: “Theories in the human sciences are typically too vague to ever be wrong, exactly”. Could we insert “ecology” for “human sciences”?
