Advice: how to do meta-analysis in ecology vs. medicine

Too busy to do any substantive posting right now, so I’ll just be tossing out some links. Bob O’Hara has an interesting post on how meta-analysis in ecology should be done differently than in medicine. He also thinks ecologists should be doing more meta-regressions, and I’m inclined to agree, if only because I don’t even know what meta-regression is (I figure I would know if ecologists did more of them…). And a commenter over there chimes in with an interesting anecdote about how meta-analysts not knowing much about the original data can actually be a good thing (there’s such a thing as being too close to your own data and your own interpretation of them).
